How to Disable Drivecam

|

Many cars and trucks are getting equipped with drivecams, primarily work vehicles. They can be forward-facing and driver-facing. However, they may not be the safest solution as the drivecam can increase the driver’s anxiety, making them pay less attention to the road. If you have one in your vehicle, it is essential to know how to disable drivecam.

When you are driving, your attention must focus only on the road ahead, and having your mind occupied with worries about someone watching you drive is dangerous. Most accidents on the road occur because the driver gets momentarily distracted.

You can easily disable the drivecam by turning off the camera. Turning off the drivecam to disable it is the easiest method. All you need to do is unplug it from the power source. Another method to disable the drivecam is by disconnecting the DVR

Disabling the Drivecam in a Vehicle

You want to avoid all possible distractions when driving for yourself and the safety of others on the road. And with a camera in your face, you are likely to feel nervous and make mistakes, so it is wise to disable it. There are two easy ways to disable the drivecam.

Turning off the camera

  1. First, you should find the power source of the driver-facing camera. Find the cables connected to it and unplug them, which should turn off the camera.
  2. If the driver-facing camera is not hardwired, you can easily remove it. However, this will be challenging if the camera is hardwired, which means it is built into the vehicle.
  3. Lastly, you can use black tape to cover the camera facing you, preventing it from taking any images.

Disconnecting the DVR

  1. You will need a screwdriver to get into your vehicle’s underboards. You must be careful not to damage any other car or truck parts.
  2. Next, locate the DVR that records images on the monitor. The DVR cable will be plugged into a power source. You can disconnect it by unplugging it.
  3. And now, use another screwdriver to unscrew the monitor mounted in your vehicle. Once unscrewed, you can remove the monitor from the vehicle and not worry about being monitored.
Other Methods to Disable the Drivecam

Other Methods to Disable the Drivecam

If turning off the camera or disconnecting the DVR is not working out for you, do not worry; you can utilize several other methods. You can use a GPS Blocker or an RF Jammer to avoid being monitored.

GPS Blocker

Another simple method for turning off the camera and avoiding anxiety induced by feeling eyes on you is using a GPS Blocker. GPS Blockers are relatively inexpensive devices. They are cheaper than a smart monitor and are small enough to fit in your pocket.

Locate the GPS transmitter that is fastened to the DVR in your car. If not, look for cables or wires connecting the DVR and GPS device. It probably will be right there. Disconnect them from the power source or unplug them to turn them off. After you have disabled the GPS tracker, no one will ever be able to determine where you are.

An RF Jammer

Devices called RF (radio frequency) jammers typically interfere with wireless signals. Therefore, they are one of the easiest ways to turn off these cameras. They are perfect for turning off your monitor because they may disrupt cellular and GPS signals.

Find the frequency band that the DVR uses to connect to the drivecam. The frequency will likely be between 300 MHz and 3 GHz, but you can also use an RF meter or scanner to look for it.

As soon as you notice little to no activity on the monitor of your drivecam, you should turn on the RF jamming device and move it closer to the DVR. This should disable all recording capabilities.
